We started a project with the handloom weavers in Nandnagari and Sundernagari area of Delhi, wherein we developed sarees as a new product with them. It has taken us and the weavers over three years to come to the present quality and design of the sarees.

During the journey we picked up all the sarees that were made by the weavers immaterial of their quality and defects. Our initial sarees were thicker and heavier while some of the sarees had very uneven selvedges.

We decided to get these sarees embroidered to make them wearable and attractive.

During this journey we associated with AADI, an ngo where we trained differently abled women in hand embroidery and got some sarees embroidered from them. We sold most of the sarees, but we still had a few left with us.

We collaborated with Sujata Suresh from Bangalore to make bags in various styles from these sarees. And needless to say she has done an amazing job with them. Once again, the main beneficiaries were the bag makers who had not been getting their regular jobwork due to the covid lockdown in the city. As Sujata tells us they really appreciated the bulk order that we placed for the bags.

These nandsundari bags were made in different variants of tote bags, sling bags, duffel bags and full zipper bags. Some bags have hand embroideries on them while some have hand painted patterns in bhil art and pichwai art all done by women artisans.

This particular bag has Pichwai art done by our very talented artist Jagriti Singh.
